Have you ever been in a situation where the emotion was way more intense that the situation called for? Like blowing up at someone or getting super defensive when there really truly wasn't a reason for it, at least not to the degree you did? That is the perfect opportunity for a R.E.A.L. moment. When you take the time to do the R.E.A.L. process you are taking off the autopilot of your emotions and taking back the control of them. Now this may not sound like such a big deal, and I must tell you, it's huge! When you interrupt your emotional experience that is way beyond what's called for, you are actually upgrading your emotional software and rewiring your brain for more productive thoughts and actions bringing you back into the moment and giving you back the control. It's super simple and so easy to do!
So, what exactly does "The R.E.A.L. Method" mean anyway...read on to find out.
Realization Evaluation Acknowledgment Liberate
Now, on with the process...
Pause, take a big deep breath...Inhale...Exhale...On the next inhale allow yourself the Realization you're having an emotion - which is a feeling in motion - the emotion is in play. From that point, you want to Evaluate. This is asking yourself: Why is the intensity of my emotion so much stronger or intense than the situation calls for? I wonder what that's about? Now those questions are answered and it's time to Acknowledge. Allowing yourself to accept, without judgement about yourself or the situation, what you're experiencing. Liberate Let Go the situation, relax the emotion & Love Yourself! Have non-judgment for what you discover! (It's not bad, it's an awareness, that allows you to take back that control.)
The more you do the process using the R.E.A.L. Method, the more calm and in control of yourself you become. It empowers you in the situation and takes the power away from the event or person you are experiencing the emotion in or with.

Maybe you find yourself sitting at the table mindlessly eating a piece of pie or maybe some cookies. STOP!!!! Put down the fork, cookie, whatever it is. PUT it down. Now you can begin the R.E.A.L. process or ask yourself this series of questions (Make sure you give yourself a chance to answer them.): Do I really want/need this right now? What am I thinking about right now or Where is my attention, what am I focusing on? Then ask yourself: What do I REALLY want/need right now? Of course after you've discovered the answers, LOVE YOURSELF AND LET IT GO. You just took back the control. Now you have the opportunity to truly feed your needs with what you discovered in your answers.
